On Friday 19 June, the Deer Park North Community Hub was involved with the school to organise and assist with the School as a Catchment Area Project within the school.
We had fabulous support from Community Hub parents and volunteers who came and offered their time to help plant our new wetlands area and vegetable gardens, and also to cook and provide a wonderful lunch for all of the parent helpers from the school and the local community.
The children visited in classes throughout the day to assist with planting and received valuable learning experiences from our very knowledgeable community volunteers.
We were also visited by both the local police and fire brigade to show their support during the day which was fabulous and the children loved seeing local community mentors.
The planting of these gardens is going to be brilliant for the school and Community Hub alike, with produce to be able to be shared among the children, families and the local community, also to bring people together through Community Hub cooking programs and helping tend to the gardens and watch them grow and produce wonderful fresh and healthy food.
Everyone had a great time and worked very hard, it was so wonderful to see all of the community and parents come together to help us see this wonderful project to fruition, one that will benefit many in the school and community for years to come.
